HIS SHADOW AND HIS SHELTER (REVISED AND REVISITED)




"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of The Almighty." (Psalm 91:1)

Turn Psalm 91:1 backwards and paraphrase it and it states - anybody resting in the shadow of The Almighty has chosen to dwell under the shelter of the Most High.

It is a choice to know "The Secret Place" as the King James Version refers to "the Shelter" of God. For the Christian, the practice of a quiet time or personal time with The Lord is an awesome avenue to tap into the benefits of resting in God's shadow. The shadow of an object or person can only cast so far. To be in the shadow of something or someone is to be in very close proximity. Applying this to our walk with God speaks of intimacy and communion with Him. God's Shadow does not refer to darkness, doom or gloom but of shade, comfort and refreshing. In Psalm 91:1 we read that "The Shelter" is His and "The Shadow" is His. Those who journey to this locale "dwell" and "rest".

However, believers in Christ need to take advantage of His Shadow And His Shelter that is available to them constantly. His promise to never leave us and never forsake (Hebrews 13:5) us means we have God On Tap through The Holy Spirit at a moments thought or at the drawing of a breath to pray. The fault falls to us when we venture out from under The Shelter and find the benefits of His Shadow are diminished or at worst lost for a season. Our thoughts, actions, words, and prayers - governed by the Holy Spirit will keep us in intimate closeness with His Kingship. Paul reminds the believer in Philipi - "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." (Philippians 4:8)

Praise God! Do you see how vast God's shadow is? His Shadow covers the entire area of "the shelter". His Word says, "whoever dwells in the shelter...will rest in the shadow". You come into His "shelter" you get His "shadow". You aim for His "shadow" and "the shelter" is already there. You receive both when you desire and seek for His Shadow And His Shelter.
